The CMA program as a whole focuses on financial decision making and management accounting Part 1 of the certification is focused on costing, management accounting, external financial reporting, and internal controls while Part 2 of the certification provides in-depth knowledge of financial decision making, financial statement analysis, managing corporate finance, risk management, and professional ethics.

No, you can take parts 1 and 2 in any order. Furthermore, you can attempt but the exam on the same day, although candidates often choose to separate their testing dates. Kindly take note that one exam cant be repeated in the same exam window.

There are 3 exam windows for the CMA exam - January/February, May/June & September/October.

Each part has 100 multiple choice questions and two 30-minute essay questions. Part 1 and Part 2 are computer-based exams. Each exam is for four hours wherein 3 hours would be for the multiple-choice questions and 1 hour for the essay questions (The essays will be presented after you have completed the multiple-choice section).

Candidates on average take 1 - 1 1/2 years to pass both part 1 and part 2 on the first try.

In order to apply for the exam, you would need a bachelor's degree from a recognized university (any specialization).

Once you pass both the CMA exams, you'll require 2 years of relevant experience in the financial management or management accounting fields to be CMA certified. You must obtain the experience within 7 years of attempting the exam.
